In Israel the government decided to go to war. They tried to mislead Egypt and the Arab countries with different measures like sending home the soldiers for the weekend, they suggested that they still looked for diplomatic solution, and even most of their own troops got to know about the start of the war next morning, when they got their final instructions. An Iraqi delegation went to Amman and Cairo to sign the Egyptian-Jordanian defence treaty. Nasser spoke in the radio about the imminent triumph of the Arab nation with the help of God. He also stated that Arab people would never accept any declaration on the free shipping in the Gulf of Aqaba, furthermore it would be considered as a breach of the sovereignty of the United Arab Republic (Egypt). The declaration, however, still was under consideration by countries, and was away from being accepted. The US Secretary of State Dean Rusk call the US ambassadors accredited to Arab countries for trying ways to prevent the war, because he thought they wouldn’t be able to hold back Israel for long.
