On a cabinet meeting the ministers discussed the fate of the newly captured territories. The viewpoints were different, some seemed to foresee the negative consequences of the occupation, some seemed to tend to keep what they gained, and the signs of the “land for peace” thought were present as well. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abba Eban basically said that the occupation would result in people who has less right than the others, and the world would side these people. Minister without portfolio, Menachem Begin suggested to increase immigration and Jewish birth-rate, and remarked: “Israel will remain on the Golan Heights until Syria signs a peace treaty, and when Syria agrees, even then (Israel) will not return the area before Syria agrees to the terms of the Golan Heights’ demilitarisation.” Even the transferring of the Palestinians to other countries was mentioned. Libya asked the USA and the UK to close down their airbases in the country after them helping Israel in the Six-Day War.
